The 737 Next Generation Series is the most capable single aisle airliner being built today.  The 737-700 has a true transcontinental capability and the 737MAX aircraft may have trans-Atlantic capability when it is defined and built.

Question:  What was the range and passenger capacity of the first 737-100?

The answer after the fold:

The original 737-100 has a range of about 1500 nautical miles and could carry approximately 100-110 passengers.  The 737-200 was considered a major improvement in being able to carry 120 to 125 passengers for as far as 2300 nautical miles.

The 737-700 is presently capable of carrying about 137 people for 3400 nautical miles.
