Now that the 787 is being delivered to customers, let’s ask a question:

In what year did Boeing announce the 787 and what was its original designation at that announcement?  The answer after the fold.

Boeing announced the 7E7 in December of 2003 with the expectation of deliveries commencing in 2008.  The first 787 was delivered this year in September and the second was just delivered to ANA days ago.
