Sunday Trivia: Oldest Airlines
There are 4 “oldest” airlines still in existence today. Two of these should be fairly well known for being such. One may be a bit of a stumper for many and one is surely a surprise for almost all.
Question: Can you name (without any research) the 4 oldest airlines in existence today?
Answer after the fold:
The first two come as no surprise. They are KLM and QANTAS and most airline enthusiasts know these to be very old airlines. Both were started in 1920.
Next up: Avianca of Colombia was originated as SCADTA in 1919.
But the real surprise is Czech Airlines of the Czech Republic started in 1923. CSA (as it was known originally) also holds the distinction of being the second airline in the world to initiate jet airliner service and the first to initiate jet only routes in its system.
This is by the “year” they were started in their original incarnation and according to Wikipedia.
