The answer(s) after the fold:The Tupolev Tu-104 was the jet airliner operating successfully between 1956 and 1958.  The De Havilland Comet was the first out but withdrawn from service after its pressurization problems were found.  The next jet airliner after the Tu-104 was the Boeing 707.

The Tu-124 was the world’s first turbofan jet airliner and was an “improved” version of the Tu-104.
